The 5th International Biennial of Textile Art will be held from April 1st to 25th, 2009 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Palais de Glace, organized by the World Textile Art Organization (WTA). The 5th International Biennial of Textile Art places its attention on those artists who choose to express themselves through fibers and weaving, resignifying through their work the concept of Textile Art, by taking away all boundaries and making it explode into many meanings and connotations.
Overstepping boundaries and combining different disciplines, those artists participating in the 5th International Biennial of Textile Art start from the mere fibers to merge into new technologies, venturing to follow new lines of investigation, fusing their quests and challenging categorizations but keeping the soul of textile materials as the integrating element.

The Stay in Buenos Aires Team

Buenos Aires is the most liberal city in Latin America. As an example, two years ago, it was legalised the same-sex civil unions. Marcela Cuesta, Buenos Aires’s sub secretary of tourism, said: “We’re quite an open society, with open criteria to accept visitors. That’s what we’ve been showing and that’s why gay tourism has nominated us as a gay-friendly city.”
In November, Buenos Aires’ annual gay pride parade attracted thousands of men and women to celebrate the birth of the first gay organization in Latin America. The parade starts in Plaza de Mayo, downtown Buenos Aires, Saturday 1rst of November at 18:00 PM, goes over Avenida de Mayo and ends in front of the Congress Palace.

If you want to get known with the “real” Buenos Aires and not only the touristic and the so popular parts of the city - which of course also got there charm- we suggest that you to take once in a while a day to walk around in a few neighborhoods that we will describe during some time, to see if you can get to the smell of the river, the rhytm of the (european) imigrants influence and the real feeling of tango..
BARRACAS
1. Martín García Avenue
It was the old route called Camino a la Ensenada de Barragan to Magdalena and Quilmes towns, originally sourcing from Plaza Mayor. The carts exit the port down Defensa and Humberto I streets. The nearby Almirante Brown avenue leads you to La Boca neighborhood.
2. Canale Factory
Martín García avenue opposite to Lezama Park
The famous and old cookies factory used to sweetly scent the whole neighborhood. Premises hold two domes and it has been decorated with majolica.
3. Avenida Martín García 584
This was the seat of Admiral Brown’s week-end cottage. Guillermo Brown, mariner of Irish origin, created the First Argentine Navy Fleet.

As you may have noticed, there are 4 presentations planned for the Sticky and Sweet tour of Madonna in Buenos Aires. They are all given in the River Plate Stadium, 3, 4, 6 and 7 December 2008. As for the third show the tickets were sold out in a few hours, the ” world wide money crisis” is taken very seriously……… tickets offered by internet have the “Sticky” price of € 271 and up…till € 6.700!
Is this not “Sweet?”

When you are visiting Buenos Aires, you also will pass by some public places like restaurants or clubs where there is obviously a birthday party going on. Something which is so common all over the world, but in the same time a reflexion of culture, very interesting to observe if you want to know a bit more about the country you are moving around at that moment.
I just wanted to tell you something about the most important birthday for the young women, honestly I don’t know if this 15th birthday is celebrated only in South America, but for European citizans for sure it is unknown.
The 15th birthday of a girl is, like mentioned above, the most important one and is celebrated like a wedding, but without any husband involved. The 15th birthday is a symbol for the change of a girl to a young women. The young women is dressed in a long white dress and she carries flowers. There will be taken photos, a special 15th birthday cake, dancing in a “salon” with the company of the family and friends and she will shine and enjoy to be the center of attention at the most important birthday of her life.
To stay in Argentina has one obligation….asado!…because the Argentine meat is known as the best meat in the world! Of course there is the possibility to eat in one of the many excellent restaurants with a parrilla (the name of the grill) in Buenos Aires, but maybe you have rented an apartment with us with a parrilla. Most of the time you will find the parrilla at the terrace of the building which is for general use of the people who live there. The rules are simple: use the parrilla and leave it behind as you found it.

O.k., first you have to know what meat you can place on the parrilla. The meat has a typical cut here in Argentina, so we have to give you a shopping list for the butcher:
“Tira de asado” and “vacio”(cow), bondiola ( pig), morcilla and chorizo (sausages) and maybe you like chinchulín.
The classical Argentine “asado” comes with a mixed salad as the side dish ( lettuce, tomatos and onions) and of course a lot of bread. Then also the “chimichurri” should be on the table, a mix of oil and vinegar with garlic, cayenne pepper, oregano, salt, paprika powder….just give it your taste.
Don’t forget to buy charcoal to make the fire !
And now you should prepare the fire, take your time, watch out for the cooking points of the meat (rare doesn’t exist here, the list is “jugoso, al punto and cocido” which will be “medium, medium/done and well done”).
Enjoy it with good company.
Bon apetite!
Spring has arrived and we wish you a happy springtime stay in Buenos Aires !
